Fuel prices still rising at pumps, what can we do, your views please.

You guys have a public transportation and rail system that we in most parts of North America dream of. If I lived in the UK, I would hardly use a car.

Even here in Canada, I hardly use mine as I live within walking distance of just about everything. The amount of fuel used for getting groceries or dropping the kids off at school isn't even worth noting.

In the UK ,70 pence per litre is pure Government Tax , so if the cost of diesel now is £1.35 ($2.18) per litre times 4.5460 litres per Imperial Gallon = £6.14 , equiv USD$9.92 per gallon. The OPEC cartel offer only excuses for the wholesale cost being so high , as there are another 150 years and more worth of oil left to exploit. I love my car and have to pay the price of fuel , as it is much better than using crappy public transport which is now getting leaner on the ground , with services being withdrawn without public consultation. what do you do if there is only 4 buses-a-day and you live out on the sticks and you have to get back home.

Not a lot, I suspect Osborne will suspend the next planned increase from the Government, because his coffers will be being topped up with the price of oil going up.

If he does hold the planned hike, the price may still go through the roof if Saudi Arabia kicks off, but that will be the same all around the world and quite frankly out of the Governments hands.

Some people here don't take this issue as important as me and Arthur!.. get a horse, use less.. really! are these viable solutions? I don't think so!!

Arthur, I am in the process of perfecting teleportation and when complete we won't need fuel at all…. I don't want to say too much at this stage otherwise the big guys will jump on the band wagon! Hang in there buddy, you won't have to keep paying for much longer icon smile Fuel prices in uk what can we do?

Use less.
Petrol and diesel are a fast-disappearing resource. Scarcity means the cost is going to rise around the world even if duty is reduced.

buy a electric car or travel by public transport
