Question by prekinpdx: What kind of alternative fuel vehicle should I get?
I’m looking into biodiesel, hybrid, natural gas or anything else. I don’t think electric will work for me since I live in an apartment. I’m leaning towards a VW Jetta TDI that is 2001 or older. Anyone have any input on tne VW TDIs? Anyone drive the Honda natural gas Civic? Are there better options to reduce my carbon footprint? I’ve heard the hybrid batteries break frequently and cost thousands to replace. True? Or is this mosly in the older versions of hybrids? Thanks!

well, if you are worried with your carbon footprint, just spend money, according to gore that’s the solution.
j/k anyway VW is the worst car company on the planet, as far as reliability and dependability and cost effectiveness. bio diesel is one of those things that a bunch of newbies talk about. when i say newbie i don’t mean they are young or dumb, just that they have NO IDEA how a diesel works, veggie fuel is worse, it has much less energy than petroleum diesel fuels… AND!!! it is NOT REGULATED like gasoline or diesel, aka it damages engines.
i wish all these people who are concerned with the carbon footprint would pull their heads out of their respective holes and realize that these stupid extremes will hurt more than help. if you went out and bought a diesel, ran it on bio, seized the engine… how much worse off is the planet now that all the energy used to cast the iron has to be burned again to make more.
